How early in production should I bring a composer on board?

As early as you can. The ideal moment is around picture lock for the cut, but many of the best collaborations start in post-production planning or even earlier — a composer can help shape temp choices and tone before final edits. Do you write the music yourself, or do you run a team?

Harmon Dynamics is composer-led — one creative voice owns your score from spotting to delivery. When a project calls for additional orchestrators, musicians, or mix engineers, we bring them in and you always know who's steering the music.

Can you work with temp music I've already placed?

Yes. Temp music is a useful map, not a mandate. We'll listen to what your temp is doing emotionally and translate that intent into original music — so you keep the feeling without the licensing and clearance headaches.

How long does a typical film score take?

A feature usually needs 6–10 weeks from spotting to delivery, depending on complexity and live recording. Episodic television runs on a weekly cadence. We'll give you a realistic timeline based on your cut and deadline before we start, and we're honest about what's achievable.

What do you need from me to start?

A cut (locked or rough), any references or temp, a sense of your emotional goals, and your delivery requirements. The more you can share about what each scene should feel, the more useful our first pass will be. Our Director's Film Music Brief template helps structure this.

How do revisions work when the picture changes?

Picture changes are part of the job. We re-conform cues to the new cut and revise as needed. The scope of included revisions is set in our agreement, and we're transparent if a change falls outside that scope.

How is budget determined?

Budget depends on the amount of music, the complexity, whether you want live or virtual instruments, and your timeline. We right-size the ensemble and process to your reality. After a brief, we propose an approach with options at different budget levels.

Can you deliver within a small independent budget?

Yes. High-quality virtual instruments and a focused approach can produce an excellent score without a live ensemble. We've scored independent shorts and features this way. Tell us your budget and we'll tell you what's possible.

Who owns the music after delivery?

Ownership and rights are negotiated in your engagement agreement. Common arrangements include work-for-hire (you own it outright) or a split where the composer retains the underlying composition. We'll walk you through the options and help you choose what fits your distribution.

What deliverables do you provide?

Final mixed cues, stems (separated instrument groups), alternate mixes for international or broadcast versions, and a cue sheet for performance-rights registration. Game projects deliver implementation-ready files organized for your audio middleware.

Do you score for video games and adaptive audio?

Yes. We write linear and adaptive music with seamless loops, layered states, and implementation-ready files for Wwise or FMOD. We collaborate directly with your audio team to integrate cleanly.

Can you write for animation and commercials?

Yes — animation, short films, documentaries, branded content, and podcasts. The discipline changes with the format, but the principle doesn't: music should serve the story.
